It’s been a little less than a year since Kathy Griffin was cornered into a sort of exile for posting a photo of a bloodied-up Trump mask, but the comedian is back with a tour and a few choice words for Kevin Hart.
First, adamant about the fact that had she posted the photo in 2018, she would’ve gotten more support than criticism, Griffin stands by her politically defiant stunt. "Every day that passes, more people realize not only was my photo literally harmless, but completely legal," she says in an interview with USA Today. "The nice thing is that, after a year, several folks who were afraid to support me are (doing so) now, and that obviously signifies a real sea change. I have people like Mark Hamill tweeting, 'Go see Kathy Griffin.' I barely know Mark Hamill -- I only met him one time. That's a big deal for me."
This newfound support has brought some of the confidence and color back to Griffin -- which was notably absent from her apology and press conference last summer -- and she claimed that she is no longer sorry. In other words, she’s retracting her retraction. She’s also done keeping quiet, at least in the near future. Her upcoming Laugh Your Head Off comedy tour features more political jabs at Trump, his family and his current policies.
For the faint of heart, she recommends attending Kevin Hart’s set: “I do feel like this is such an anxiety-ridden time for everyone that there is a thirst for all kinds of comedy. And look, if you want to not hear about Trump at all, go see Kevin Hart. He doesn't even mention Trump. I personally think that's a (expletive) move because he's a black man. But I guess he's selling more tickets than I ever will.”
